Washington DC: On April 11, the inaugural Bright Schools Competition™, sponsored in collaboration by the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), named 50 middle-school teams as national finalists in the competition, which challenged students in grades 6-8 to explore the light and sleep and how this relationship affects student health and performance.
The initial turn out for the content was 170 teams, composed of nearly 550 students heralding from 63 different schools.
"Congratulations to all of the national finalists who competed in the competition this year,” said NSTA Executive Director Dr. David Evans. “We are pleased that so many students choose to use science to explore the connection between light and sleep.”
The first-, second- and third-place national winning teams will be chosen and announced on May 2. Learn more about the competition here.
